ASBS Natural Water Quality Committee and ASBS Monitoring
This committee was established under State Water Board Resolution 2004-52. The Committee will focus on Scripps’ and other relevant La Jolla data to define natural water quality in the San Diego-Scripps ASBS in La Jolla. The Committee has also agreed that their work should provide guidance for assessing impacts to water quality in any ASBS in the State. The Committee will not make regulatory decisions but will instead provide scientific advice to the Water Boards regarding natural water quality on the coast and in the ASBS, and the observed impacts to water quality and marine aquatic life in ASBS. Regarding the Committee’s scientific questions, three areas of emphasis have been established:
- Are water quality objectives and permit limits being met?
- What are impacts to marine species and communities?
- What would ambient marine water quality be like without waste discharges, and how does effluent impact that water quality?
